Boxed for iPhone · Effective 17 October 2026
The short version. Boxed has no account and no servers of its own. Your puzzles, progress and settings stay on your iPhone. The app shows ads from Google AdMob, and Google may collect some device and usage data to serve and measure those ads. Your advertising identifier is shared only if you allow tracking.
Who we are
Boxed is made by Mohamed ElZoghbi, publishing as ZaPlatform ("we", "us"). You can reach us at zaplatform@gmail.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Boxed saves the following only on your device. It is never sent to us, and we have no way to see it.
| Data | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Puzzle progress (boards in progress, solved boards, Journey and Endless progress, Time trial bests) | So you can pick up where you left off |
| Streak and stats | The streak calendar and your stats |
| Settings (language, appearance, haptics, sound, colour-blind patterns, reminder time) | Remembering your choices |
| Whether you own Remove ads | Turning ads off after you buy it |
There is no sign-in, no account and no sync between devices. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.
Advertising: Google AdMob
Boxed is free because it shows ads: a banner on Home and the level lists, sometimes a short ad between puzzles, and a video ad when you ask for a hint. These are served by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK, and consent is handled with Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). Unless you've bought Remove ads, Google may collect:
- Device identifiers. The advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking (see below), plus other device and app identifiers that Google uses for ads.
- IP address, which can be used to estimate your coarse location (such as your country or city).
- Usage and diagnostic data, such as app launches, ad load times, performance and crash data related to ads.
- Ad interactions, such as which ads were shown and whether you tapped one.
Google uses this data to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance, and prevent fraud and abuse. If you allow tracking, ads may also be personalised. Google processes this data under its own policy, not ours:
We don't receive the data Google collects about you. We see only totals in our AdMob account, such as the number of ads shown and earnings.
Tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency)
Boxed asks whether it may track you before any advertising identifier is used. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the IDFA is not shared with Google, and you'll still see ads, just not ones based on your activity in other apps and websites. You can change your choice at any time in your iPhone's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Boxed shows Google's consent message before ads are personalised, and you can accept, refuse or choose by purpose. To review or change your choice later, open Boxed and go to Settings → Help → Ad privacy choices.
Purchases
Remove ads is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account. The app learns only whether you own Remove ads. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
Notifications
The optional daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. Boxed asks for permission first. No push service is used, and nothing about your reminders is sent anywhere. Turn it off in Boxed under Settings → Daily reminder, or in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Boxed.
Analytics
Boxed contains no analytics SDK of its own. Apart from what the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects as described above, no usage data leaves your device.
Children
Boxed is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will help.
Your choices
- Refuse or withdraw tracking: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- In the EEA, the UK or Switzerland: Settings → Help → Ad privacy choices in Boxed.
- Stop ads altogether with the one-time Remove ads purchase.
- Manage how Google personalises ads at My Ad Center.
- Delete everything Boxed stores by deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change ships.
